Consilience Wines: Crafting Unforgettable Moments at Sanger Wines

Consilience is the scientific term for what happens when a wide range of evidence produces a single, empirical truth. With Consilience, we aim to craft wines that not only invigorate the senses, but also bring together friends, family, and loved ones in a singular moment, a memory to be shared for a lifetime.

How we got started...

Consilience became a reality in March of 1999 when winemaker Brett Escalera released his very first wine - our 1997 Santa Barbara County Syrah.

Our Consilience wines focus loosely on the Rhone and Burgundian varietals of France, implementing Bordeaux varieties and notable blends of these grapes. Most of our fruit is grown on our own Sanger Estate Vineyard located in the Santa Ynez Valley just a few minutes into the Mountains of northern in Santa Barbara County.  

Bold and expressive, these wines aim to capture the raw beauty of French varietals in a New World style with more fruit, body, and depth. The unique terrior of Santa Ynez Valley allows us to craft both light and seductive wines (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) in relatively close proximity to big and bold wines (Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon) allowing for a wide range of potential grape varieties, each unique to the vineyard on which they grow.

Over the years, our Consilience has won over 50 awards and accolades from competitions all over the country, ranging from the Orange County Fair in California, to the Houston Rodeo in Texas. While our wines are commercially available online across the country, we maintain a production of less than 2,000 cases per year for our Consilience label, with most wines below the 150 case threshold. 

In late December 2013, Consilience became part of The Sanger Family of Wines. Bill and Jan Sanger, proprietors of the Marianello brand, welcomed us into their wine family.
