Following the release of Sideways back in 2006, most of the Merlot vines in Santa Ynez Valley were ripped from the ground and replaced with Pinot Noir. While we have had our Merlot planted since 2012, we have been using it mostly for blends and topping barrels. 2019 was an exceptional vintage, and we are happy to be enjoying our first vintage of Merlot to the public. These grapes are planted on a south-facing slope that allows the vines ample sunlight for ideal ripeness. Aged in older, neutral barrels, this wine is a perfect balance of fruitiness, pepper, and oak flavors and aromas.
